Scouting Report:
· Big frame, powerful and athletic
· Outstanding Football IQ
· Full-field reader with experience in pro passing concepts
· Great at diagnosing coverages and blitzes pre-snap and recognising favourable match ups
· Strong arm that he can contort into different angles to make passes fitting the ball into windows that most QBs can't.
· Accurate on the move
· An aggressive decision maker
· An efficient productive scrambler when he needs to gain yardage with his legs
· Can throw passes to any part of the field with no velocity or accuracy limitations
· Great vision
· Reads coverages well allowing him to throw with great anticipation
· Superb ball placement
· Great timing with his passes
· Can layer his passes on all levels of the field; short, intermediate and deep.
· Capable of altering touch and trajectory when needed.
· A legitimate threat when running the ball either on designed runs, scrambles for yardage, or scrambles to buy time until one of his weapons is open.
· Will at times attempt to force throws whilst overly relying on his arm strength when pressed to make plays.
The Tar Heels’ passer was a five-star recruit out of high school who fit in seamlessly into the North Carolina high-production offense. Maye looks the part of an NFL QB, has the talent of an NFL QB and is doing NFL QB things at a higher level than anyone in the 2024 NFL Draft. The best QB in this class for my money mainly because he has the most translatable tools from college to the pros. A prototypical Pocket Passer, a bona fide Franchise QB who is a day 1 starter with many Pro Bowls and a few All Pro seasons in his future. A few decision making issues that lead to sloppy interceptions but those are infrequent. He’s a prospect worthy of the number 1 overall pick.
