Top 5 Offseason Moves So Far in 2025
NFL Free Agency has officially begun, and there have already been plenty of deals across the opening few weeks.
Arguably the craziest part of the NFL offseason, there are moves left right and centre from each of the 32 franchises.
Of course, it is not a guarantee that the Free Agency moves will be a success or failure in March, but there have been plenty of moves that will excite the fanbases and have a good chance of being as good as advertised.
Here are the five best Free Agency additions so far:
The run game was the biggest asset to the Los Angeles Chargers offense in 2024. J.K. Dobbins had a career year, with 905 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Earlier in the offseason, they added Najee Harris to the roster.
With 1,000 plus rushing yard seasons in each of his first four NFL seasons, the addition of Harris will make this one of the best running back rooms in the league.
The Chicago Bears struggled against the run in 2024, ranking 28th out of 32. The addition of defensive tackle Grady Jarrett could be a game changer for this organisation.
Jarrett ended 2024 with 53 total tackles, nine for loss and 12 quarterback hits. He also pitched in with 2.5 sacks from the interior. Signing for $42.75 million, this could be exactly the guy to change this unit around and fill the void left by Khalil Mack a few seasons ago.
His press conference raised a few eyebrows but his work so far in Chicago not only shows his commitment but also his leadership. His ability to lead has been evident for years during his time with the Atlanta Falcons where he was a team leader for many years. He has been seen on Instagram working out with his new teammates.
The Bears are having a great offseason and the Jarrett move is easily one of the best across the entire league.
After a difficult first four seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets, where he only played once across two seasons in 2021 and 2022 due to injury, Mekhi Becton was deemed a bust. However, he made the move to the Philadelphia Eagles a year ago and has not looked back.
Forming part of one of the best offensive lines in the league, Becton ended the 2024 season as a Super Bowl champion as they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.
The offensive line helped protect quarterback Jalen Hurts, who ended up winning Super Bowl MVP. It is no secret that the Jets are an organisation full of disfunction, whereas the Eagles and General Manager Howie Roseman are far from that. Signing a two-year $20 million deal, Becton now heads to another organisation with stability through head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Becton will join a unit that allowed quarterback Justin Herbert to be sacked the joint seventh most times in 2024. He will be a key figure in the improvement of this area of the field as the team aim to finally end their long playoff hoodoo.
Since being drafted 64th overall by the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, wide receiver DK Metcalf has made a habit of proving the doubters wrong and will aim to do so once again with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Despite 992 yards and five touchdowns in 2024, there is a section of NFL fans who feel Metcalf is on the decline. However, alongside George Pickens and tight end Pat Freiermuth, he will be joining an excellent supporting cast for whoever is under centre in Pittsburgh.
The addition of Metcalf will ease the burden on Pickens and allow this Steelers offense to flourish. With his height and strength, and ability to produce highlight plays, this is an excellent signing for the Steelers.
The Arizona Cardinals have made one of the signings off the offseason, adding defensive end Josh Sweat on a four-year $76 million deal.
Sweat arrives in Arizona after an impressive 2024 with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he won his first Super Bowl. In the regular season he recorded eight sacks, 41 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and 15 quarterback hits. He arguably saved his best performance for last and could have easily won Super Bowl MVP.
In the aforementioned 40-22 win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, Sweat recorded 2.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and six total tackles as the Eagles completely dominated Kansas City. Bringing this level of defensive excellence will only improve this side of the ball for Cardinals, a unit that was 20th against the run and 14th against the pass.
The Cardinals earnt eight wins in 2024, Sweat could be the difference between a Cardinals losing season and a playoff win, or maybe more.
