Just before their first game of the season Gareth spoke to TE and Superbowl winner Cody Latimer. They spoke about the excitement of the first game and what he expects to bring to the Guardians. Cody said,

I think I will bring a lot. Knowing how to win and being on being on winning teams. I’ve been trying to bring that here and show them what it is like to be a pro as a lot of the guys are fresh out of college and haven’t been to any professional level yet. How I carry myself as a pro. I carry myself a lot better than I did before in my journey. Just bringing a positive attitude and how a professional looks to the team.

They also discussed the move from WR to TE in this season and the quality of WR/TE core in the XFL. The discussion about not having any game field and how that is different to any other game. Cody said

I don’t think it will be that difficult. End of the day we control what we control. We have a great staff and great players on here and be able to adjust on the fly. So if we see something we wasn’t prepared for we will make an immediate adjustment and continue to play ball.

They also discussed building relationships with all 3 QBs and how Orlando didn’t release who QB1 was going to be into game. A discussion around the new rules in the XFL and how they can enhance the games. Cody also how the XFL opportunity came about for himself. Cody said,

I received a call. It was weird actually. As I had been on the couch for 3 years. I got into other things, I got into coaching, I got into my tattoo licence and enjoying the family time. I got a call in October and got asked if I would give the XFL a try. I talked to my wife and decided to start training and then went to a work out in Orlando and got back. I got back into training and the grind and hoping to hear my name called and you know it was. I was excited.

Cody also talked about how happy he was to be drafted by Orlando and getting to live in the city and bringing his kids to Universal on his down time. Orlando have a huge advantage for being a massive tourist hub and the likelihood of Orlando being a good team of choice for international fans and becoming the team of choice.

We wish Cody and the Guardians a huge success this season and grateful for his time.
