In this episode of the Franchise tag overtime Gareth got to speak to DC defenders star QB Jordan Ta'amu about the upcoming season. Jordan was a star in the short time of XFL 2.0 and has his sights set again on being a huge part of the success on the field at DC.
Within this episode Gareth and Jordan discussed the unusual weather for Arlington and what he was going during this off time. Gareth was extremely curious how he learns a play book so quickly. Jordan said,
I’ve kind of created a habit where if I leave a team I forget that playbook and then start learning another playbook. I like to start fresh. Start picking things up, writing things down and that is how quickly I’ll learn it. I write it down. I see it visually and I go out there and play. Watch film on it later and I learn from that.
They also discussed how training had been going and also around learning from Reggie Barlow and the other coaching staff. Jordan said about Reggie Barlow,
I love coach Reggie Barlow. He is such a good head coach. He comes inside our meeting rooms and shares such great stories. I also got hear his testimony in Bible stuff which was really cool to hear. Him just bouncing around different coaching staff. Him getting this opportunity here. Like us players we all have opportunities. This is a good opportunity for him.
They talked about the build up for the upcoming opening game vs Seattle Sea Dragons and the chance for him to play in front of DC defenders fans. They also talked about going back to St Louis and playing against a team he previously played for. Jordan said,
I’m excited to back there and play in that Dome stadium. I only played 2 games there but I am undefeated in that dome. It will be a cool feeling going back and playing in that stadium.
They discussed when the opportunity when the XFL came back about how his game has improved since he last played. Talking about his performance in the USFL and how he want to be the Number 1 QB in the XFL and take care of the football.
Jordan talked about how he has built the relationships with everyone in the team and how quickly a bond has developed. Jordan also talked about when the XFL came back how keen he was to get involved again. He said,
It was kind of difficult at the time. As I was currently under the USFL contract and I couldn’t leave until that contract until the contract expired. Which was December 31st. So I couldn’t enter the draft of the XFL . So I had to sit around and see what was happening with the USFL and XFL was offering and planning on doing. Once I had heard it was coming back I was like I want to go back to St Louis. That was my mindset. I then spoke to coaches and could see myself playing in DC.
They also discussed the draft itself and the Defenders getting the first pick and the advantage that gave. Finally they discussed the upcoming games and how fans should get themselves down there. Tickets are available on www.xfl.com/tickets and we at the Franchise tag wish Jordan a good season and great success.
