New York Jets to Make History as the First NFL Team to Announce Draft Pick from Ireland
On April 27th, the New York Jets will be the first ever NFL team to announce a draft pick from Ireland in one of the pre-season’s most pivotal events.
The draft pick will mark the first activity in Ireland for the New York Jets who recently announced their expansion into the market as part of the NFL’s ‘Global Markets Program’.
The Jets have long been connected to Ireland with their iconic green jerseys being a tribute to their former owner Sonny Werblin, who was born on St. Patrick’s Day.
Saturday’s draft pick will be revealed by Greg O’Shea - host of Virgin Media’s ‘Six O’ Clock Show’, Irish rugby 7’s star and winner of 2019’s Love Island - at a location in central Dublin with a bird’s eye view overlooking the city.
NFL’s Global Markets Program awards NFL clubs international marketing rights to build brand awareness and fandom beyond the U.S. through fan engagement, events and commercial opportunities.
The New York Jets wider plans for Ireland include soon to be announced watch parties and other activities to grow and nurture an Irish fanbase.
Greg O’Shea, John MacCarter (Vice President of Finance & Analytics) and the soon to be announced draft pick will be available for interviews upon request.
