Gareth spoke to Andrew after the opening day defeat vs a tough Houston Roughnecks. Gareth asked Andrew how he felt after the opening game and Andrew said,
I felt a lot of emotions because number 1 we all want to win. So firstly disappointed and we know we didn’t do enough to win. It was my first professional on national TV so individually it felt good to get out there and make some plays. But same thing, I want to do more to win so lots of mixed emotions.
They talked about his own performance being the lead receiver in week 1 even with the number of well known WR they had playing for Orlando. The enhanced coverage was also discussed and how interesting it was with the new coverage ESPN put on.
A discussion around the new rules and how it means no game is every truly over and how well XFL has been receiver last weekend. Gareth asked Andrew if the transparency of the referees is something the NFL could learn from the XFL. Andrew said,
100%! I know the XFL commissioner and higher ups have had a discussion with the NFL about partnerships within the league so I most definitely something that the NFL will take away from the XFL.
Game vs Houston started off really well with Paxton Lynch and the team marched down the field and scored, Andrew felt that even though that drive went well it was lack of performing from the offence as a whole not how good Houston defence played. Gareth asked Andrew how the relationships are building within the team. Andrew said,
I love these guys and I’ve known them a couple of weeks. I feel like I’ve known my whole life. Especially guys like Cody and Eli that have done and had success in the NFL. For a guy like me who hasn’t played in the NFL being able to watch and learn from them every single day is a blessing. Off the field man, these guys are awesome. It just makes it that much more easier to play for one another knowing we all mesh together.
He also talked about being a sponge around Cody and Eli and learning off them each day. The XFL came about for Andrew and he told us of his journey and how he watched the XFL 2.0 and he wanted to play in the League. He also played previously with Deondre Francois in the Fan Controlled League and how much he is looking forward to going to Orlando this weekend for the opening game.
He also discussed he doesn’t know what to expect from the fans in Orlando with it being a brand new franchise and he is excited to see how the fans are and how he hopes Orlando can become the city of choice for international fans to be. Tickets are available for every home game in Orlando at XFL.com/tickets.
We wish Andrew a lot of success this season and truly grateful for his time.
