Gareth spoke to Australian Punter Brad Wing fresh from the Brahmas first win of the XFL season vs Orlando Guardians. Brad is well known to fans in the UK and worldwide due to his time in the NFL for Pittsburgh and New York Giants.
Gareth talked to Brad about how it felt about getting their first win of the season. Brad said,
It was good you know, the guys here have been working really hard and the coaches. So it was good to see that pay off and we are just excited to excited for the challenge this week ahead in Houston.
They then moved on to discuss the upcoming game vs Houston who are currently 2.0 this season and their tough side. Gareth also asked Brad someone from Melbourne Australia ends up going to high school in Baton Rouge in Louisiana. Brad said about it,
It is an interesting tale. So my dad he was travelling the world in his mid 20s with a couple of his friends and he made friends with various parts of the world and he made who lived in Baton Rouge that he stayed in contact with, obviously still today. So that was the connection with Baton Rogue . We knew a family that lived in Baton Rogue and I kind of wanted to go to America. Id been cut from my Australian Rules side over there so I didn’t have a plan B. I wanted to keep playing sports as long as possible. So we looked around online for an exchange student programme and found one. The rule was you either got given a random family or you could nominate if you knew somebody. So just by pure luck that they lived in Baton Rouge was the only reason I went there.
They then talked his time in Aussie rules helps him to become a punter at the highest level and then discussed his time at LSU and going to such an elite Football College. They then moved on to talk about his time in the NFL and especially his time in New York. Brad said,
Again I feel I have been so lucky on this journey. I couple of the places I’ve landed. New York was great, a really good programme and the city isn’t too bad. There is always something to do in New York City. I had never been prior to getting to the Giants. So it was a really good experience as a whole. It was good to work there, was good to live there. When friends or family come to visit they have a lot of stuff to do. I’ve made some really good friends in I’ll have for the rest of my life.
They also discussed how he became a player in the XFL and how he ended up at San Antonio and the Brahmas. They discussed how good the people of San Antonio have embraced the XFL and the brilliant Atmosphere generated in the Almodome.
This weekend the Brahmas battle against Wade Phillips Houston Roughnecks. Houston so far are unbeaten and Gareth and Brad discussed how confident the team is of getting a win.
Was a really enjoyable interview and we wish him every success this season.
