Gareth and Devin has a really good discussion on this one. They initially talked about how well DC have done and the perfect 3.0 start. Gareth asked about how the morale in the Locker room was right now. Davin said,
It feels good. You know but, the main thing for our team is we never ride the highs. So we try to stay and stay as humble as possible and take each day 1 at a time. Greg Williams, Coach Barlow, myself and a couple of guys on the team who are leaders we always try to make sure they understand that you don’t ever feel yourself. We have good vibes in the locker room right now because we are winning. But end of the day everyone stays focused and understand you can be beat any week.
They also discussed the game last weekend vs St. Louis and how DC stayed ahead and won that game and how exciting the XFL has been even in pretty much every game in the XFL. Gareth asked what has set DC apart from the other teams in the XFL. Davin said,
I don’t want to sound like I am saying the same thing but it is preparation. You know, the attention to detail at practice. Talking to the guys after our Wednesday Practice that we are 3.0 but we are also inches away from 0.3. In pro sports it is a game of inches especially in football. That is why at practice you want to have attention to detail in everything you do. Just understand that something this small can separate an 0.3 team with a 3.0 team. With us getting over those humps in the 4th quarter is our attention to detail. Also our preparation and I hate to sound redundant but we run a tight ship over here.
A discussion came over the strip sack that Davin did on the QB vs St Louis and how the fans in DC have embraced the Defenders and the reputation that fans in DC have developed already with the Beer snake & Lemons. Davin said about the fans,
Man it is crazy. I was just telling a couple of the boys back home. Being at Georgia you play in front of 93,000, 96,000 every Saturday. But the way DC is constructed, it’s a soccer field and the fans go wild. I’ve never been a part of anything like that. The beers flying up in the air and the lemons coming out. Rocking and rolling and it beats 96,000 sometimes. I always say being in Georgia playing in those big arenas it’s controlled Chaos. Whereas there they are having a party in the stands. it makes you want to go. On that 3rd and 12 I looked at the back of the end zone and I was thinking man, I want to get a sack right now. This is going to explode. They egg us on and our defence we have a lot of guys who are rowdy and love to hit. So they give us that extra mojo.
A conversation around the fact the fans seem to have embraced the personality of Greg Williams and how the fans are a big family. A conversation as well around St Louis and going to a very packed dome. The conversation moved on to talk about this weekend game vs Vegas and how they have been an unlucky 0.3 team and how they could be a difficult game.
Davin was really likeable and someone we here at the franchise tag wish great success for next game and also for the rest of the season.
