In this special episode of the Franchise Tag Gareth got to speak coaching Legend HC Wade Phillips in preparation for the new season. They discussed they was keeping the players busy during the time when training was off due to the bad weather. As well as how training had been going. Wade said

Training had been going really well. We have had 14 practices before the storm came in. So we have accomplished a lot. Got another two weeks before the season starts. So we will have plenty of time to get the team ready.

They talked about how the draft went and how well they thought they had done in that process and how his experience he can help players develop. Wade said,

Coaching is teaching, so I feel there is a lot we can teach them with things they can get better. It is an individual process. Each individual has their own thing they are looking to work on and do better. As a coach we have to identify and work on that and be able to help him. So it is an ongoing process but if a guy has talent and we have to utilise his talent.

They also talked about the unusual nature of the XFL rosters and how most of them hasn’t played together before. They also talked about how his team will be tough to score against and they will be using the Phillips 3-4 defence. They also discussed how the XFL came about. He said,

The people who was doing the hiring of course knew me and since they knew I was from Houston and I went to the university of Houston, I coached at the Houston Oilers and Houston Texans. I’ve been a Head Coach 3 times in the NFL and 3 times as an interim head coach so they thought I’d be a good fit for Houston. So when they asked me to coach the Houston team I jumped right in as that is home for me. I just think it was just a good fit.

The potential rivalry between the 3 Texas state as well as potential rivalry with Orlando for the division. They also discussed the importance of keeping the Roughnecks name for the new team. They also talked about the World wide nature of the XFL and how league has huge potential as a result of that and why fans should be Roughneck fans,

We would like to thank Wade for his time and wish him a successful season.
